Welcome to Emerald class! Our class is home to 22 wonderful, reception and year 1 children. There are two full-time adults supporting children, Mrs Parker is the class teacher and Mrs Getter is the teaching assistant plus Mrs Wallis on a Friday.

We are very lucky to have large learning spaces, both inside and out. Outside, we have a fenced off area specifically for reception children, where they can explore and play as and when they choose to. As well as that, we have extensive grounds with a variety of different environments (a wooded area, green space, a pond, a huge hill, plus much more) for children to explore and learn in. Inside, the large classroom is split into learning zones, such as role play, writing, construction and small world; to name but a few.

Our aim in Reception is for children to enter Year 1 as confident, independent and imaginative learners, we achieve this by giving children the opportunities and time they need to thrive. Children will work in two general ways. Firstly, we have COOL time, this is where we ‘choose our own learning’. During this time, children are free to choose any of the activities inside or outside of the classroom. The second way of working is when we have WARM time, which means that there is ‘work all receptions must do’. WARM activities will be fun and often play based, but will be used when we need to focus on particular skills, such as counting or adding; these activities will usually be supported by an adult.
