We have designed a unique curriculum for pupils of Yardley Gobion CE primary school, which ensures that every child is valued and has the opportunity to experience the feeling of success in a wide range of curriculum areas. We believe that through our uniquely designed curriculum we can impact on what is in children's heads and how they feel about themselves so that they feel clever, confident and inspired to tackle the challenges that await them. Our curriculum design process starts from the Church of England's Vision for Education aims, as shown below.

Our curriculum aims

Our school vision

“Using the talents God gave us to achieve and shine”

God's voice thunders in marvellous ways;

He does great things beyond our understanding.

Job 37: 5

“To inspire individuals, through our Christian values, to use their skills to succeed academically, artistically, physically, socially and emotionally.”

To ensure that children get opportunities to achieve this, we ensure children receive a broad range of subjects and experiences. All of which are planned around our five key DRIVERS.

For an overview of our curriculum structure please see below.

For more details on how our Drivers develop through the school please see below:

In the Early Years Foundation Stage the children experience a broad range of experiences to support them to achieve the objectives curriculum. We use the Floppy’s Phonics Scheme to develop phonics and early reading.

The children in Key Stages 1 and 2 are taught English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, Religious Education, Art, Design Technology, History, Geography, Physical Education and Personal Social and Health Education. We teach French from Year 3. We follow the locally agreed syllabus for RE. This syllabus has a emphasis towards Christianity, but also challenges the children to consider other mainstream religions and people of no faith.

For more details on how our subjects develop through the school please see below.

We have designed, organised and planned our curriculum to ensure that every child receives an appropriate mix of academic and personal development which means, in practice, that we place equal importance on both core and foundation subjects.

We place a high priority on ensuring children's physical and mental well being are met and valued as importantly as we value academic progress. We understand that children will not be successful academically unless they are emotionally secure. With this in mind we carefully design our curriculum and adopt a flexible approach to timetabling to ensure that we respond to any issues that may arise that impact on mental well being.

We carefully monitor children's personal development progress and our well-planned and embedded approach to Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) learning helps to ensure every child is well cared for and supported.

Our insistence on balance in our curriculum is not at the expense of high aspiration for standards in our core learning areas. High standards, enabling children to reach national expectations, is of vital importance if children are to succeed in the next stages of their education and go on to achieve full and happy lives as contributing members of society.
